DHG Strengthen Market-Leading Pressure Ulcer Prevention Portfolio with the Acquisition of Sumed

DHG, a Pan-European medical device manufacturer, has completed the acquisition of Sumed International Ltd (Sumed), further strengthening its UK post-acute Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Rental & Service operations with a strong heritage brand.

Beginning trading in 1987, and under previous ownership since 2006, Sumed has a well-established reputation as a manufacturer and service provider of pressure ulcer prevention surfaces, accessories and wheelchairs, driven by a dedicated team and backed by high-quality solutions.

DHG’s acquisition of Sumed further expands its comprehensive pressure ulcer prevention portfolio, widening access to Sumed’s Integrity surfaces and Wheelchair range, whilst offering existing Sumed customers an increased offering of solutions to treat and manage pressure ulcers, as well as a complete Safe Moving & Handling portfolio. Service delivery is also expanded, providing customers of both Sumed and DHG with true nationwide coverage through 10 Rental and Service facilities and 135 technicians.

The combination of DHG and Sumed’s expertise in manufacturing pressure ulcer prevention solutions will ensure that its customers will continue to be provided with high quality, cost-effective products that deliver proven clinical and health economic benefits.

Graham Ewart, CEO of DHG, said: “Sumed have established themselves as a highly regarded manufacturer of solutions for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers through decades of partnership with our healthcare system. Both companies share the same vision in delivering proven, best value solutions, and customers of Sumed can be assured that we will continue to deliver the same quality and service that has come to be expected in their near 40 years of operation.”

Graham Collyer, Executive Chairman of Sumed, said: “Sumed and DHG were a natural fit, sharing an ethos and vision for the business that will ensure that customers of Sumed will continue to receive the very best solutions for the maintenance of healthy skin. DHG is the ideal platform to continue to grow the brands that Sumed have built, both in the UK and beyond.”

DHG is backed by ArchiMed, a leading independent investment firm specialised in the healthcare industries, who encourage strategic growth through dedicated resources and with significant capital investment. Both ArchiMed and DHG seek new ways to support efforts to move health forward by delivering innovative and leading solutions for individuals whose lives are impacted by reduced movement.
